Metal fabrication
Metal fabrication covers cut, formed, welded and finished metal parts, from simple brackets to powder-coated assemblies. Tolerance and finish specification matter more here than in most categories, because small deviations affect fit and function.
What we source
- Sheet metal brackets, enclosures and panels
- Welded and formed assemblies
- Powder-coated and plated finishes
- CNC-machined and laser-cut components
What typically goes wrong
- Tolerances are not specified, so parts vary between production batches
- Finish specification is vague, leading to inconsistent coating thickness or colour match
- A factory subcontracts welding or coating without disclosing it, affecting consistency
- Packaging for transit is inadequate and parts arrive scratched or bent
What we need to quote
- A drawing with dimensions and tolerances, ideally a DXF or technical drawing
- Material grade and thickness
- Finish specification, including colour and coating type
- Target quantity and whether tooling or jigs are required
Typical lead times
Simple fabricated parts are typically quicker to turn around, while parts requiring tooling, jigs or multi-stage finishing more commonly take in the order of 5 to 9 weeks before freight, depending on complexity.
Standards and labelling
Structural and safety-related fabricated products may need to meet relevant Australian standards depending on their end use, and country of origin marking applies to most imported metal goods. We confirm what applies before production is committed.
